Whether you are a working professional, a student, or just a busy person in general, staying in shape can be a daunting task. From my experience, time management and finding the motivation were the two biggest challenges in developing a healthy lifestyle. My first year of college I had selected one of the hardest majors at my school (Industrial Engineering), all while trying to partake in extracurricular activities and maintaining a social life. After many trial and errors, I was able to establish a consistent schedule that allows me to exercise, enjoy life, and stay on top of work.
Here are the tips that I followed to become a more active person:
Build a schedule for the week: Spontaneous events come up from time to time, but from what I have seen, building a rough schedule for each day of the week keeps you on top of your needs while assisting to meet goals. Try to fit in at least 30 minutes of exercise at least three days per week.
Develop a mindset: One of the most difficult parts about being active while being busy is having the mindset to go do something even after a long day. It is important to truly believe that exercise is a necessity in creating a balance in life.
Creating a healthy habit: Exercising consistently out of nowhere can feel uncomfortable in the beginning. However, after around two weeks of commitment, you begin to create a habit that turns into a lifestyle. At that point it becomes a regular routine and a large part of your life.
Take Breaks: One of the reasons many busy people have trouble finding time to exercise is because they forget to take breaks during the day. Not only is it an excuse to exercise, but it also a way for you to take your mind off things and refresh your body for a little bit.
